Brush up My Affiliate Marketing Skills for 2014

One of my goals for 2014 is to brush up my affiliate marketing skills so I could increase my monthly recurring affiliate commission. It is always my dream to build a passive income so I could slow down and reduce my working hours and focus more time on my family and other interests. But alas, I had spent too much time on providing design services for the past two years as most of my projects were energy suckers and left me totally burnt out. So in order not to repeat the same history, I better buck up this year and re-focus my energy towards my original planned goals.

I’ve been earning a consistent sum of recurring affiliate commission but definitely not enough to call “passive income”. Hence, it is important to brush up my affiliate marketing skills to catch up with the latest techniques and strategies.

In the past, I had signed up few fundamentals courses on affiliate marketing such as the Rosalind Gardner’s AffiliateBlogger Pro (now has been renamed to Rosalind Gardner’s Academy), it was considered an old course but still a goodie. New affiliate marketers who have zero knowledge should start on this as it covers the A-Z that every beginner should know but unfortunately there is not much update on the site so there is no new content. The next one is the Mark Ling’s course as he offers excellent free lessons on how to build an affiliate marketing website. He also offers supportive tools and plans for those who want to speed up building their affiliate marketing business.

If you went through these two courses, they are good enough to provide you all the details to run a marketing business from ground up. However, if you wanted to focus on specific traffic strategy or special affiliate marketing tips, they are lacking in these areas. But fortunately, there is one such course in the market, it is offered by Kim Roach in her Marketing Lab. See the screen shots of her Marketing Lab below.

Kim Roach is well known as a Traffic Queen as she constantly experiment different and new traffic strategies in her Marketing Lab. Her experiment results are well documented as case studies and webinars at her membership site. I like the way she showed the step by step process in her video on how she tried out the different techniques and the results she achieved. Not many affiliate marketing gurus are willing to show the beginners the behind-the-scene process but Kim is willingly and patiently to do so. One good example in the case studies is how she created a new website – optiming.com from scratch. She showed us the exact steps from where she got the inspiration for the website, selecting the domain, set up the website, the process of hiring writers for content, the traffic plans she used to finally, how to monetize the website. It is actually not so daunting after watching the steps she went through. A good lesson learned here is that a revenue-generating website does not necessary has to have thousands of posts to generate revenue. In fact, it can simply reply on few core but evergreen posts to attract traffic. This is good news to affiliate marketers as we always have problem generating enough posts for our sites.

Updating Traffic Tips from Monthly Webinars

There are a lot of excellent tips from her monthly webinars. The recent completed one is “How to create your own membership site (step-by-step)?” I’m glad that Kim covered this as I’m in the mid of building one for continuity income, I hope she could do one in future related to content generation and launching of membership site.

One thing I noticed that her webinars focus majority on building subscribers list which I could understand as subscribers list is the life blood of every affiliate marketing business. You will not able to succeed fast if you do not have your own subscribers list. Most of the training videos are normally an hour or longer so it takes a lot patience to sit through and digest. With the amount of information in her Marketing Lab, it would take me a while to finish and understand all the training materials but it is a good revision and I can’t wait to try out some of the new techniques she mentioned in the training videos too.
